Can you jumpstart a car with bad neutral safety?

Blaine Connett: Yes, if the neutral safety switch failed in such a position to allow the car to start. Otherwise, you'll have to jumper around the switch contacts. And if that switch is inside the transmission, it becomes more difficult to do. You might be able to reposition the switch so that the contacts complete the circuit. There are several ways you might be able to bypass the switch depending upon the car and transmission.

Hunter Osterberger: Or push-started?

Donella Vasta: The neutral safety switch prevents a car from being started in anything other than park or neutral (which I assume you know). Since it is usually located on the steering column and is not that difficult to get to just short it out.

Ayesha Genova: on newer cars the switch is in the trans, or should I say screws into the side of it, not too hard to replace. or you could just unplug it and jump the wires, thus disabling it
