I need help connecting my macbook to my television.?

Randal Deyarmond: This (below) is a good description of the best I can get on the tv from the laptop.A side effect of the vertical sampling is that if you AC couple a video signal, you must still have good square-wave response at the field (broadcast), or frame rate (graphics). If you don't, you'll get brightness variations across the raster. This can be seen in a vertically-split black and white screen pattern. " That sounds like your problem, right?From:http://www.maxim-ic.com/appnotes.cfm/an_…...Show more

Derrick Kloke: i dont know how the apple OS works but theres a way to extend your computer screen onto the tv using your computer settings. it may say just that. extend my desktop

Loriann Carrigan: I have checked the settings on the television but unfortunately this tv doesn't have alot of settings on the menu. I was hoping that it would have somthing that I could change the input so that the tv "knows" its a computer I've got hooked up to. But there are! no options whatsoever to change the the type of input - rather than cycle through ant1 ant2 vid1 and vid2. So the TV doesnt have any options in the menu that I can change that will correct the problem

Cody Petrulis: I've found that if you're sending a digital signal to an analog TV, it's hard to get it working. You might want to try getting a converter box of some kind, or switching to an LCD TV.But here's some info for resolutions you might want to try out (find the table in this article:http://www.maxim-ic.com/appnotes.cfm/an_pk/750Oh, here's something:"A side effect of the vertical sampling is that if you AC couple a video signal, you must still have good square-wave response at the field (broadcast), or frame rate (graphics). If you don't, you'll get brightness variations across the raster. This can be seen in a vertically-split black and white screen pattern. " That sounds like your problem, right?From:http://www.maxim-ic.com/appnotes.cfm/an_pk/1184 So, readin! g that article, I'd guess your TV doesn't do Progressive scann! ing, or it has to be changed to Progressive mode in order to display the laptop properly. Check the TV's menu for the input you're using and try to change the setting to "Progressive" instead of "Interlaced." Thank you for the interesting question. I come here for questions such as these, that make me think and research new things. Yours is a great one!UPDATE:OK, here's more confirmation that progressive scan is the way to go:http://hometheater.about.com/od/beforeyoubuy/a/pro... I think you need a component video connection (R, G, B connectors - they look like RCA/AV but they have three colored connectors -not one yellow one - for video). Yup, here's the confirmation on that:"In order to access progressive scan, both the source component, such as a DVD player, HD cable, or satellite box, and the Television display need to be progressive scan capable. The progressive scan signal is transferred from the source component to the television via either a progressive scan com! ponent video output or other type of connection, such as DVI (Digital Video Interface) or HDMI (High Definition Multi-media Interface) that allows the transfer of standard and high-definition progressive scan images to a similarly equipped television. On DVD players, the progressive scan signal is sent via component video connections, which are labeled Y, Pb, Pr, or via HDMI or DVI connections. Component video connections labeled Y,Cb,Cr transfer only interlaced signals. In addition, standard AV and S-Video connections do not transfer progressive scan video images. "From: http://hometheater.about.com/od/beforeyoubuy/a/pro...So, I think the upshot is you should look for a TV Out expansion card for your macbook (ask at your local Mac Store, or call a Mac Store within driving distance and ask. A TV out expansion will allow you to connect up via S-Video or AV because it converts the Progressive Signal to Interlaced. Here's something:http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9267G/A...! Show more

Linwood Mccory: I have the mirror options down. Obvious! ly on some settings some sort of signal is reaching the television (hence the black and white image flickering) There is a problem with the signal being translated from the laptop to the television.
